Broken Social Scene closed their blistering set this afternoon with covers of two homegrown faves: Death Cab for Cutie and Modest Mouse. Frontman Kevin Drew also told the crowd, “Sorry about your basketball team. I blame Ben Gibbard,” before conceding “I don’t know if that’s fair.” Maybe not, but we’ll take the love, BSS.

In 1982 Hall & Oates topped the charts with “Maneater”, check out The Wooden Birds put their indie spin on “Maneater” and then see Hall & Oates perform the original at Bumbershoot 2011.

Hall & Oates aren’t the only Bumbershoot artists inspiring covers! Get your peepers on Broken Social Scene reworking Modest Mouse’s “The World at Large”. Modest Mouse has made several Bumbershoot appearances the first of which was in 1998. Broken Social Scene will be carrying the indie rock torch when they take the stage this year at Bumbershoot 2011!

MTV doesn’t show videos anymore, which means Broken Social Scene can go and make a graphic and mildly disturbing video for their song “Sweetest Kill”. Be forewarned. There will be blood.
