Magician/comedian duo Penn & Teller performed two shows at Bumbershoot in 1994 at the Opera House. As you can see in this picture, Teller served as the butt of most of Penn’s jokes in between their illusions. Since they played at the Festival, they have taken their special blend of humor and shock value on several national tours, and currently perform 6 nights a week in Las Vegas at the Rio.

Rock and roll pioneer Joan Jett rocked Bumbershoot in 1994 along with her band the Blackhearts. Jett had already been scoring hits for some 20 years before stepping on to the Bumbershoot Mainstage. Also appearing on the Mainstage in 1994: Jackson Browne, the Neville Brothers, Buddy Guy, Bruce Hornsby and Bonnie Raitt.
According to legend, Jett would call Mike Tyson on every day he had a major fight. Apparently the first time she didn’t call was on the day of his fight against Buster Douglas. Tyson would go on to lose his first career bout. Joan’s definitely got the juju!
