“There can only be one first time.”

My son has loved music his entire life. At the age of 13 as a self taught guitar player we decided to enroll him in the Seattle School of Rock. Shortly after he joined the program they told us a select group of kids would be playing Bumbershoot. Since I have been going to Bumbershoot since around 1985 I was like WOW, how cool is that. Then they told us they wanted Kyle play the show. One of the songs they wanted to do was “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and since Kyle had been playing Beatles music for years they gave him the lead guitar part. It still makes my eye misty even thinking about it.

Now he is 16 and has played many festivals and on many stages with great musicians, currently with band “Verlee for Ransom”

And yes he can say, “The first time I played in public was at Bumbershoot, in the Sky Church to a packed house of about 1000 people.” Something most kids can only dream of.

Thank you for the memory.
